Hello!

I am Fred L. Jones,

I am the CEO and Owner of Expanded learning Solutions and Afterschool Guru. I began my career in education as a teaching artist working with at-risk youth in New York City. I then served as Senior Grants Manager for the NYC Office of Youth Development. In 2012, I relocated to Los Angeles where I served as Project Coordinator for the Los Angeles County Office of Education After School Technical Assistance Unit, providing professional development and coaching to teachers and administrators covering 1800 schools in LA County.

What We Do
Our focus is on building capacity in expanded learning staff to support students and families holistically, academically and spiritually. We understand the unique opportunities for engagement that are inherent in afterschool programs, and how to train staff to be effective classroom leaders even if they don’t have a degree in education or some type of pedagogical background. We do this by being very intentional about how we teach, and by providing staff with frameworks that will provide stability and and give them confidence within their learning spaces.
How We Help
We have a broad range of workshops, courses and resources that cover core competencies needed by an afterschool professional. We also offer more in-depth dives into subject matter that provide more guidance on how to improve program quality and make a positive impact in the lives of the students and families we support.
