Course Description

What is active?, what is meaningful? How does this relate to your life? These are some of the driving questions we pose to students as we explore the Learning In Afterschool and Summer (LIAS) principles.

Developed by Temescal associates and  Partnership for Children and Youth,  The Learning in Afterschool & Summer Project is an effort by afterschool advocates and leaders to focus on best practices for promoting young people’s learning in an expanded learning environment. . They did this by identifying 5 essential principles. Those principles are:

  • Learning that is active
  • Learning that is collaborative
  • Learning that is meaningful
  • Learning that supports master
  • Learning that expands horizons.

In this workshop, particpants will explore each of the LIAS principles and learn how to design a program that puts the principles into practice. Fasten your seatbelts as we explore how these principles can help us develop a high quality afterschool program, and what that would look like in your school
